A shout-out for Rep. Peter Welch, D-Vermont, from President Obama.

This reminds me of the scene from the movie Cars in which Fred, an old and rusty dilapitated car shouts, “He knows my name!” when Mario Andretti says his name (read from the old car’s license plate).

Cars was Malcolm’s favorite movie for a long time.

I posted this in the comment section of my my post Schubert Lives? I realized that some of you may not have had the pleasure of sitting through music history class with Dr. Whaples at UMass.  With apologies to my music history professors…

Sorry, this was intended for music students and/or fans of classical music. Lied in German literally means song. We learned about them as art songs beginning in the early 19th century. Having to sit through music history classes much attention was given to Franz Schubert‘s leider. I particularly remember Der Erlkonig (or The Elf King).

Gidget, the 15-year-old Chihuaha, suffered a fatal stroke Tuesday night, according to a report from People magazine.

The “mostly-retired” canine also appeared in the film “Legally Blonde 2,” starring as Bruiser’s mom. In addition, she appeared in a commercial for the ‘90s edition of Trivial Pursuit.

When she wasn’t starring in films and commercials, Gidget enjoyed taking hikes, sunning her fur and sleeping for 23 hours

[Obama] said federal officials need to continue working with local law enforcement “to improve policing techniques so that we’re eliminating potential bias.”

This is cause for concern on a couple of levels.  First, the implication that federal officers are some how above racism, or racist behavior, is ludicrous.  Second, Obama reveals that he believes in the supremacy of the federal government over the state and local government.  This is not surprising considering that he wants to take over auto companies and health insurance companies, but it’s cause for concern, nonetheless.

My first thought was: is Al Gore a composer, too?  My next thought was that it was a song cycle entitled Al Gore, from a different composer, but who?
