So I was loading up my game of Scrabble on facebook and I saw this ad in the upper right hand corner:
My first thought was: is Al Gore a composer, too? My next thought was that it was a song cycle entitled Al Gore, from a different composer, but who?

Do I need to be a fan of Schubert to get this? Is “Schubert Lied” something I should know? I feel stupid.

Sorry, this was intended for music students and/or fans of classical music. Lied in German literally means song. We learned about them as art songs beginning in the early 19th century. Having to sit through music history classes much attention was given to Franz Schubert‘s leider. I particularly remember Der Erlkonig (or The Elf King).

There is a music educator in my class and in the interim I had her explain this, so NOW I get it (and feel more sophist-uh-muh-cated.)
