Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream will join in by renaming its “Chubby Hubby” flavor “Hubby Hubby” for September.

via Everyone’s welcome to celebrate as gay couples wed: Rutland Herald Online.

I don’t have anything to add except one question:

If I owned a business that catered to weddings and the like but I refused to (knowingly) enter into contract with a gay couple, would I face any sort of legal action and would my rights be trumped by the rights of the gay couple?

Healthcare Reform – The Real Experts | Conservative.FM

Here is an excerpt from the article by my ‘colleague’, Peter Milovich, at Conservative.FM:

Unlike the one-trick-ponies in the Obama administration, Dr. Holtorf has alternative solutions to America’s healthcare “crisis.” For instance, he believes that if an employer pays $500 per month for an employee’s healthcare, it would be more cost effective to spend $100 per month for a catastrophic care policy, and then offer the extra $400 directly to the employee in a medical savings account. The $400 would be used to cover basic healthcare expenditures such as office visits. One of the key elements of a medical savings account is that the holder of the account gets to roll over the unused money at the end of the year, or even perhaps keep a percentage of it. This would entice people to “shop around” for the most cost-effective healthcare. When people are actually spending cash on healthcare that can eventually be theirs to keep, they’re much less likely to visit the doctor every time they have a runny nose. They’re also much more likely to try harder to remain healthy in the first place.

Uh oh…

Late Tuesday, the National Automobile Dealers Association in Washington, D.C., released a survey of its members that estimated they have submitted claims for nearly $3.3 billion. The Cash for Clunkers program is only authorized to spend $3 billion.

via Survey: Cash for Clunkers is tapped out.

If the estimate is accurate, then what is going to happen with the $300 million in claims?  Will the taxpayers be on the hook for more?  Will the auto dealers be on the hook by way of the feds reneging on their promissory notes?

Clunkers continues to illustrate the ineptitude of government to run anything.

SEC. 401. TAX ON INDIVIDUALS WITHOUT ACCEPTABLE HEALTH CARE COVERAGE

via Search Results – THOMAS (Library of Congress).

I tried to read through this section of the bill because its title caught my attention.  There are many things that I did not take the time to find out and if some one wants to challenge me then I guess I’ll have to look harder.  However, the title of this section should say enough.

Taxing people because they aren’t carrying acceptable health care coverage?  That is insane!  That’s like taxing some one for not eating enough spinach.  This is about control.  You don’t have to get bogged down in the details to know that the health care reform as proposed by Obama and the Democrats is bad news for our country.  In fact, I would argue its because of the details that too many people are willing to just throw up their hands and say, “oh, I’ll just let the politicians work that out.”

A bill as lengthy and complex as H.R. 3200 is symptomatic of the problem with our government, not the health care industry.  Let’s try something less complex:

Health Care Bill 1.0

Step 1: Start over from scratch – scrap Medicare, Medicaid, VA, SCHIP

Step 2: Make things equal (keep in mind equal does not mean fair) – scrap the tax code.  If an income tax is necessary, make it the same for everyone (a flat tax).

Step 3: Privatize, or incentivize, retirement savings – scrap Social Security

The Law

  1. Section 1 – individuals are responsible for their own care
  2. Section 2 – government shall establish no law abridging Section 1

Step 1 is necessary to get the government to stop controlling prices that they have no business controlling.  Despite good intentions, price controls only serve to make things worse for the general population.

Step 2 is necessary so that everyone can keep as much of their own money as possible.  A tax that is applied the same to all voters is equal and will help prevent elected leaders from abusing the power entrusted to them by the electorate.

Step 3 is necessary to help establish the proper attitude for Section 1.

Once the law is that simple to understand, even our public school students will be able to learn how government works and how they are responsible to keep it working.  (Full Disclosure: I attended public schools.)

The United States relaxed its regulations on sex selection in 2001 and American medical centres report interest from British patients who find out about their “family balancing” services through online advertisements.

via US clinic offers British couples the chance to choose the sex of their child – Times Online.

Family balancing is a term that I have not heard of until today.  Have any of you heard of the term prior to this article?  It seems like a harmless variation on the act of procreating.  On the other hand, it seems a little bit like playing God by trying to determine the outcome of a pregnancy.

I would be hard pressed to come to an immediate conclusion on the morality of family balancing in this manner (family balancing by use of abortions is unequivocally wrong).  Because of my predisposition toward life as it has be endowed by God, I would probably lean toward shunning the practice of gender selection for any purpose including family balancing.

An opera singer was rushed to hospital after tumbling into an orchestra pit during a performance at a British festival.

via Opera singer falls off stage | The Sun |News.

Ouch!  That must of hurt.  I wonder if an orchestra member cushioned her fall?  I hope she didn’t land on the bass drum.  Or the cymbals.

Ouch!  That must of hurt her pride even more.  Forever more she will be known as “Ana Maria Martinez – the singer who fell into the pit.”  Or more generically, “the opera singer who fell into the pit.”

N.B. The Sun writes that no one else was hurt in the incident.  So it appears that no musicians were harmed in the making of this production.

“There’s something about August going into September where everybody in Washington gets all wee-weed up,” Obama told an audience at the Democratic National Committee headquarters. “I don’t know what it is. But that’s what happens.”

Ah…

Um…

Well…

…I just don’t know what to say.  I can’t believe the President of the United States said “wee-weed” to a well-covered event.  This guy really needs a vacation.
