The measure does not force a district to arm its teachers and would not force teachers to carry a gun.

We see that business is not heartless, but rather the ribcage which holds the heart

I read this interesting, and thought-provoking post on American Thinker. I am inclined to agree. What do you think?

With gasoline prices at a two-year high, President Barack Obama today called for a crackdown on “price gouging” at the pump. Some consumers may feel relief to hear that the White House intends to protect them from supposedly unscrupulous suppliers. But the President’s energy policies are a lot more to blame for the current high prices than any market manipulation. And to the extent his “price gouging” rhetoric persists, the rise in oil prices could worsen.

No one person can “control” gas prices, but the president of the United States certainly has a lot of potential influence, for better or worse, in that department.

The record shows that government price controls have consistently proven to be disastrous. In the 1970s, for example, artificially low prices imposed by the Carter Administration resulted in shortages that caused gas lines a la Eastern Europe.

Jesus tells us that even a little faith in Him can move mountains:

He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.” (Matthew 17:20 ESV)

This terrifying earthquake has moved an entire island:

The powerful earthquake that unleashed a devastating tsunami Friday appears to have moved the main island of Japan by 8 feet (2.4 meters) and shifted the Earth on its axis.

And Paul reiterates the power of faith in Jesus:

And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.(1 Corinthians 13:2 ESV)

If moving an island isn’t enough, how about moving the entire planet:

Reports from the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology in Italy estimated the 8.9-magnitude quake shifted the planet on its axis by nearly 4 inches (10 centimeters).

I’m not suggesting that a group of faithful Christians caused this earthquake or that the people of Japan somehow deserved this terrible force of nature, but I do think it would be wise to tremble at the power of our God and praise Him for His mercy, especially the mercy found in His grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

Judy Gump, 45, who teaches English as a Madison high school, also said the fight wasn’t over. She said that if the first person who got arrested during the civil rights movement had given up, the movement would have failed.

“It was illegal,” she said, talking about the vote on the bill. “This is so not the end. This is what makes people more determined and makes them dig in.”

I know, I know…when you’re speaking in the heat of the moment its hard to use proper English.

Saturday Press Secretary Slota said that she talked with the Governor by phone Saturday, and that administration officials do in fact know where the Governor is vacationing. However that information is not being released out of respect for the governor’s privacy.

So, the governor wants to tell me what I can and can’t drink via a new beverage tax, but I’m supposed to respect his privacy?

Vermont’s manufacturing sector is as important, and large, in this state as it is nationally,  It’s not true that Vermont’s manufacturing sector is smaller than in most states nor is it true that manufacturing is shrinking, at least in terms of output.  That the number of workers it takes to produce that larger amount of output is falling is primarily due to productivity, not to firms shipping their production offshore.  Rising productivity in manufacturing or anywhere else in the economy is a sign of health, not of decline.
